How to Earn Ascendancy Points in POE 2
Path of Exile 2 offers one of the most intricate and flexible skill trees in the ARPG genre, allowing players to deeply customize their character's playstyle. At the heart of this system lies Ascendancy Classes—specialized class paths that unlock powerful passive skills and game-changing abilities. But to fully realize your character’s potential, you’ll need to gather Ascendancy Points.
Here’s everything you need to know about how to get Ascendancy Points in Path of Exile 2, including the trials you must complete and how to unlock all eight available points.
What Are Ascendancy Classes?
In PoE 2, each of the seven base classes can evolve into one of two unique Ascendancy Classes, offering a more tailored and strategic playstyle. These Ascendancy paths drastically enhance your combat effectiveness and open up powerful passive options.
Here’s a breakdown of all Ascendancy Class options in Path of Exile 2:
-
Warrior – Titan or Warbringer
-
Mercenary – Gemling Legionnaire or Witchhunter
-
Witch – Blood Mage or Infernalist
-
Sorceress – Chronomancer or Stormweaver
-
Monk – Invoker or Acolyte of Chayula
-
Ranger – Pathfinder or Deadeye
-
Huntress – Amazon or Ritualist
Choosing an Ascendancy path is a major step in your character’s development—but unlocking its full potential requires Ascendancy Points.
How to Get Ascendancy Points in PoE 2
Ascendancy Points are earned through Ascendancy Trials, challenging dungeons filled with enemies and a powerful boss at the end. These trials not only test your skills but also reward you with the points needed to enhance your Ascendancy class.
1. Trial of Sekhemas
Found in Act 2, this is the first Ascendancy Trial players will encounter. It includes several combat encounters and culminates in a boss fight. The key to getting the best rewards is preserving your Honor Meter—taking damage reduces this meter, so strong defensive play is important.
2. Trial of Chaos
Unlocked in Act 3, this is the second available trial during the first playthrough. Like the first, it ends with a tough boss battle and offers two Ascendancy Points upon first completion.
Completing both trials in your Normal difficulty playthrough will grant you 4 Ascendancy Points.
How to Get the Remaining Ascendancy Points
After completing the game once, Path of Exile 2 gives players the option to restart on Cruel difficulty—a more challenging version where enemies are tougher, but your character retains all of their previously earned skills, items, and stats.
Here’s what to do:
-
Begin a New Game on Cruel Difficulty.
-
Revisit and Complete the Ascendancy Trials Again.
-
Trial of Sekhemas (Cruel)
-
Trial of Chaos (Cruel)
-
Upon successful completion, these will award 4 additional Ascendancy Points, bringing your total to 8.
Difficulty | Trial | Points |
---|---|---|
Normal | Trial of Sekhemas | 2 |
Normal | Trial of Chaos | 2 |
Cruel | Trial of Sekhemas | 2 |
Cruel | Trial of Chaos | 2 |
Total | — | 8 Ascendancy Points |
Tips
-
Only your first completion of each trial rewards Ascendancy Points. Replays are good for gear and EXP, but won’t yield more points.
-
Preserve your Honor Meter in Trials to increase loot quality.
-
Prepare well for the Cruel difficulty—enemies hit harder, and the margin for error is smaller.
By mastering the Ascendancy system, you'll unlock some of the most powerful abilities in Path of Exile 2, giving you the edge you need to survive the toughest challenges in Wraeclast.
